Analysis of irregular behaviour on an optical computing logic cell

A new methodology to study irregular behaviours in logic cells is reported. It is based on two types of diagrams, namely phase and working diagrams. Sets of four bits are grouped and represented by their hexadecimal equivalent. Some hexadecimal numbers correspond to certain logic functions. The influence of the internal and external tolerances, namely those appearing in the employed devices and in the working signals, may be analysed with this method. Its importance in the case of logic structures with chaotic behaviours is studied

The use of computers for graduate education in Project Management. Improving the integration to the industry.

This paper presents an initiative for monitoring the competence acquisition by a team of students with different backgrounds facing the experience of being working by projects and in a project. These students are graduated bachelor engineering are inexperienced in the project management field and they play this course on a time-shared manner along with other activities. The goal of this experience is to increase the competence levels acquired by using an structured web based portfolio tool helping to reinforce how relevant different project management approaches can result for final products and how important it becomes to maintain the integration along the project. Monitoring is carried out by means of have a look on how the work is being done and measuring different technical parameters per participant. The use of this information could make possible to bring additional information to the students involved in terms of their individual competencies and the identification of new opportunities of personal improvement. These capabilities are strongly requested by companies in their daily work as well as they can be very convenient too for students when they try to organize their PhD work

Representación de locuciones mediante embeddings extraídos con DNNS para reconocimiento automático de locutor

Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado tiene como objetivo la implementación y análisis de un sistema extractor de representaciones de locutores de una longitud fija (embeddings) a partir de audios de una duración variable para la posterior verificación de locutor. Con ello se busca profundizar en técnicas que ya han demostrado superar a los métodos más usados (como los modelos de variabilidad total, los i-vectors) y analizar qué configuraciones de parámetros del extractor obtienen mejores resultados. Para abordar esto, se entrenará una red neuronal profunda con diferentes configuraciones de parámetros y tipos de arquitectura en la tarea de clasificación de locutores. Lo que se busca es que la red sea capaz de extraer aquellas características que mejor identifican al autor de una determinada locución (que serán luego las que se extraigan), y para ello emplea un entorno supervisado para aprender mediante descenso por gradiente cuáles son las transformaciones más adecuadas para este fin. Para poder conseguir esto, la red tendrá una parte dependiente del tiempo en la que se tratarán las dependencias temporales de las secuencias de audios y luego, tras una agrupación de información basada en estadísticos, habrá una parte no dependiente del tiempo, en el que se trabaja directamente sobre representaciones independientes de la longitud de los audios. Además, en este trabajo se ha realizado un estudio sobre cómo la aplicación de modelos de análisis de factores (LDA y GPLDA) afecta a los resultados del sistema completo, y se analizan las ventajas e inconvenientes de la integración de estos modelos con el extractor implementado con respecto a la métrica de similitud coseno. El conjunto de datos empleado en este trabajo ha sido una unión de los datos de las “Speaker Recognition Evaluations” de NIST de cinco años distintos (2004, 2005, 2006, 1008 y 2010), seleccionado por su popularidad y porque provee una gran cantidad de datos sin mucho ruido en sus etiquetas. Las principales herramientas con las que se trabajará son Keras y Tensorflow para la implementación del extractor y la obtención de los vectores representación, y Matlab para la aplicación de las técnicas de análisis de factores. Además, se cuenta con aportaciones en Kaldi. En la parte final se presentan los resultados obtenidos al ir modificando distintos parámetros del extractor (número de neuronas por capa, número de capas, cantidad de datos empleados, longitud de los datos empleados, inclusión de técnicas contra el sobre-entrenamiento y distinta dimensionalidad en LDA y GPLDA). También se incluyen las conclusiones que se pueden extraer de los resultados presentados y las posibles líneas de trabajo futuro

Como somos vistos em Portugal? A visâo da Galiza através dos visitantes portugueses

[Resumo] Esta intervenção pretende apresentar a parte do Projecto TUI (Turismo e Identidade) relativa aos visitantes portugueses à Galiza. Os objectivos fundamentais são o conhecimento das motivações dos visitantes portugueses que chegam à nossa comunidade, bem como a análise da imagem que da Galiza (e dos galegos) têm, e como esta influi na interacção durante a estadia. A este respeito, são abordadas questões como a definição dos perfis a estudar, aspectos metodológicos de recolha e análise de dados, assim como as principais conclusões do trabalho realizado até ao momento. Além disso, são discutidas também perspectivas de trabalho futuro e de aplicabilidade da pesquisa.[Abstract] This paper presents the part of the TUI Project (Tourism and Identity) related to the portuguese visitors that come to Galicia. The main objectives of this research line are (i) to know the motivations that portuguese travelers have to visit our community, (ii) the characteristics of the image of Galiza (and of Galician people) that they have, and (iii) the way motivations and image interact during the visit. We will discuss the definition of the visitors’ profiles, some methodological aspects related to collection and analysis issues, and the first conclusions of this research. Furthermore, we also suggest further perspectives of this work as well as areas of applicability of the project

Analysis of the Behaviour of Biofuel-Fired Gas Turbine Power Plants

The utilisation of biofuels in gas turbines is a promising alternative to fossil fuels for power generation. It would lead to significant reduction of CO2 emissions using an existing combustion technology, although significant changes seem to be needed and further technological development is necessary. The goal of this work is to perform energy and exergy analyses of the behaviour of gas turbines fired with biogas, ethanol and synthesis gas (bio-syngas), compared with natural gas. The global energy transformation process (i.e. from biomass to electricity) has also been studied. Furthermore, the potential reduction of CO2 emissions attained by the use of biofuels has been determined, considering the restrictions regarding biomass availability. Two different simulation tools have been used to accomplish the aims of this work. The results suggest a high interest and the technical viability of the use of Biomass Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (BIGCC) systems for large scale power generation
